Static Movement

Scott I listen to this CD a lot; it has a cool, clean sound with which I can quite easily escape daily drudgery. The music is far from "static," however, and in my mind the album's title is a reference to the slow movement of glaciers.

about

Throughout my more than 30 years of playing Percussion and Steel drum in various ensembles at many locations around the world, there was a contemplative more non-rhythmic side to my musical landscape. A world known but unknown, described in the subtle movement of sound rather than a driving, rhythmic, forward motion. This is not to say rhythmless but more subdued then as the other persona. Within this landscape is my refuge, my escape, my contemplation and spirituality.

Static Movement is my most recent work, envisioning a journey into and through a world of cold. Not looking toward the destination but discovering the journey, the paths of those before. Winding over valleys, climbing over hills, diving into caverns as daylight changes into night. There isn’t a sense of fear or an excited need to find shelter, just a simple enjoyment of what is seen, discovered and experienced.

Much of my music over these years had remained personal, not for the consumption of others. But as small pieces are shared there is a call for more, a yearning to know more of these worlds.

As an educator I have shown others the way to express their voices and then distribute that work for many to hear. It is only fitting they have turned to me now to release old and new works that have been kept so carefully behind the veil. I thank them for their persistence.

Special thanks to Solly for continued encouragement of all my musical endeavors - without it I would have given up long ago.
